How can you change your Mac address?

I have an Apple Imac MAC OS X and I want to change the Mac address/ Computer address, how do I do this? Need some easy instructions.How can you change your Mac address?
The MAC address is similar to a serial number for your network card. Every network card is made with a MAC address hard wired into the card. It can not be changed except by physically rewiring the card. As each one has to be unique, if you were to change the number so that it conflicted with another card, both would be permanently banned from the Internet.

The IP address of the computer is a different issue. That is assigned to you by your ISP. They can change that address for you if you ask them.

Finally there are proxy services and software for masking an IP and MAC address that you can use to make your addresses appear to be different when you are on the Internet.How can you change your Mac address?
Do you mean your 'Media Access Control' address (i.e. the address on the network card) ?

If so there is an article on the Iron Geek website that describes how to accomplish the task:-

For one, your MAC address is an address that is tired to your network card. It is not meant to be changed (although it can be spoofed). I believe you are looking for a way to change your IP address. Below is a guide to help you change your IP address on your computer. Keep in mind that if you are trying to circumvent a ban on a game server, web site, forum, chat room, etc, this only changes the IP address of your computer as seen on your internal network; the outside world will still see you having the same IP. You can't change this external IP unless you reset your modem, and only then if it requests a new dynamic IP from the ISP's DHCP servers, and doesn't just reclaim the old one.

Step 1

Launch the Apple Menu. Select ';System Preferences.'; Then click ';Network Control Panels'; and click ';TCP/IP.';

Step 2

Select the network configuration that has the green dot next to it, from the ';TCP/IP'; screen you opened before. This is your active connection and will probably be the ';Built-In-Ethernet'; option in the drop-down box. Then click the ';Configure'; button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Step 3

Click the ';Configure IPV4'; drop down menu next and choose ';Manually.';

Step 4

Type in your new IP address in the box under the TCP/IP menu. Simply delete the number that is in there and enter your new one.

Step 5

Click ';Save.'; Your address has now been changed.
