My computer detects a wireless connection but the internet doesn't work. I have changed to MAC address...didn't help.

My computer fails the ping test. Could this be the problem? How do I fix it?

I have Windows XP and use an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Card.Computer detects wireless connection but internet doesn't work?

Try to reset the connections, so they can refresh trhemselves. Should be up and running then.
Hi

If this is your own connection that you are talking about you need to enter the long serial code underneath your modem as it is your encryption key to your access. SECURITY ACCESS

P.S. If it is not your connection you have to pick a connection that as no lock next to the multiple choice you have with your wireless connection
try restarting the computer
Unless this is your own wireless router and you know the encryption key it will not work. If it is someone else's you are liable to up to 5 years in prison for trying.
Couple of things could cause this.

1) The router may have locked up - basically the lights are on, but no one is at home. Reboot the router and it should become responsive.

2) The router is secured and you are giving it the wrong password. I know of several routers that, if you try to connect with the wrong password, will allow you to connect, but not accept any traffic. In other words, you will show as connected, but if you run a status (or ipconfig), you will have a 169 address (the microsoft default) instead of a valid IP address.
Try RTFM - read the flippin' manual.....
Hi,

I'm having the same problem with my wife's computer. Last night, all of a sudden, she lost the ability to surf the net and check email. Her wireless connection status shows being connected and we've since tried repairing, disconnecting/reconnecting (entering in the CORRECT WEP) and restarting the laptop - all to no avail. If you get a great answer to solve this problem, let me know!
